A little about the couple, as told by Kalen:
"Mario and I met in 2008 through mutual friends over drinks at a happy hour. We took an interest in each other immediately and agreed to a first date. The first date led to a second and then a third. We really enjoyed our first few dates, but for reasons neither one of us can agree on we weren't a good fit. For me, I know only being 25 years old at the time, I wasn't really ready for a serious relationship. Despite that, shortly after, I knew in my heart and mind that Mario was the one for me. Throughout the years, I always felt that he was the guy that got away.
Eight years later…. I was preparing for a company golf tournament and really needed some help. I posted a plea for help on my Facebook page as I really didn't want to embarrass myself. After not having been in touch for so long, I thought I would never hear from Mario again. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Mario responded to my post offering to be my swing coach. We agreed to meet at Hermann Park golf range where we would spend the next couple months together working on my stroke. Hours of golf slowly turned into hours of talking and laughing. We would eventually close our sessions with a glass of wine watching the sunset. Before we knew it, we were getting to know each other all over again, but this time as friends.
Even after my golf tournament, we enjoyed each other so much that we kept the lessons going. There was something there. A trip I had planned with a girlfriend to Spain would interrupt our weekly routine. Being away from each other opened up the opportunity to express our feelings for each other. Upon my return we agreed to what we now refer to as our "second first date". We would continue to date, growing our relationship over the next 14 months.
We were in love. After being apart for 8 years, we both felt that we were back to where God both wanted us to be. We knew what we had was special, but I had no idea what was going to happen next. Mario's birthday was coming up and I was making secret plans to make it special. Little did I know that Mario had his own plans. He secretly recruited my best friend to give him the details of what I was planning. All week, I thought that I was surprising him, but he had the biggest surprise of them all. In the middle of our dinner at Brenner’s on the Bayou, Mario's father pops out of nowhere and we followed him to the gazebo outside where both of our family's were waiting. He got down on one knee in front of our parents and proposed. It was the best surprise of my life!!!!
One Month later we began planning our wedding at The Parador in Houston, TX. Our goal was to share our love and faith with our family and friends!"
